The chinese name for the Golden Arowana is “金龙鱼”; it is sometimes also referred to as ‘Dragonfish’ or “Dragon Goby.”
The Golden Arowana is a small, bottom-dwelling freshwater fish, typically measuring 5 to 15 centimeters in length. Their bodies are slender, laterally compressed, and slightly flattened. The skin of the Golden Arowana usually exhibits golden yellow or orange hues, which is the origin of its name. They possess a pair of small dorsal fins and a pair of pectoral fins, with a relatively long caudal fin that is forked. The Golden Arowana has relatively large eyes and a wide mouth.

Golden Arowana typically inhabit freshwater environments such as rivers, lakes, streams, and marshes. They are bottom-dwelling fish that often hide beneath sand, mud, or rocks on the riverbed. Golden Arowana are nocturnal and are more active at night. They feed on small bottom-dwelling invertebrates and microorganisms, using their protruding lower jaw to dig for food.
The Golden Arowana is not typically a fish widely consumed for food. It is more commonly kept as an ornamental fish, as its beautiful golden body and interesting behavior make it a popular choice for freshwater aquariums. Due to its small size, the Golden Arowana has no commercial value as a food source.
Dragonfish constitute a broad group of species comprising several distinct varieties. Some of these varieties include:
1. Golden Sailfin Dragonfish: This is a golden or orange variety of dragonfish with a particularly well-developed dorsal fin that resembles the sail of a ship.
2. Red Dragonfish: This variety features a vibrant red body and is a common ornamental fish in freshwater aquariums.
3. Dragonfish Fry: Dragonfish fry are commonly raised in aquariums, and their coloration may change as they mature.

Dragonfish are generally not subject to seasonal restrictions because they are freshwater fish that can thrive in a constant freshwater environment. This means they can live year-round under suitable temperature and water quality conditions. However, if you are an aquarist raising dragonfish, you need to pay special attention to water quality, water temperature, and the rearing environment to ensure their health and well-being.
Goldfish are fascinating ornamental fish known for their unique appearance and behavior. Although they are not commonly eaten, they are popular in aquariums and offer fish enthusiasts opportunities for observation and learning. With their vibrant colors, they are well-suited for breeding and display in freshwater aquariums.
